Da oggi è possibile fare telefonate Voip da WhatsApp su quasi tutti gli smartphone. E’ una rivoluzione lenta che va oltre Skype, basta una wireless gratuita o un contratto con traffico dati illimitato e il gioco è fatto: si telefona gratis senza pc!

A fine agosto WhatApp contava 600 milioni di utenti attivi al mese, solo ad aprile il contatore aveva registrato 500 milioni di utenti attivi. Secondo le stime di GlobalWebIndex risalenti a fine maggio, sulla piattaforma si scambia messaggi circa il 19% della popolazione connessa globale.
Con questi numeri del 2014 la app si apre oggi al Voip. Una volta provato se ne capisce la portata. E’ semplicissimo, anzi non se ne deve capire molto di più: basta cliccare sulla cornetta in alto a destra del contatto e la telefonata parte. Ovviamente anche il contatto deve essere predisposto.

Al di là della portata tecnologica quello che colpisce sono le ripercussioni sul mercato. I colossi telefonici ora hanno una grana da affrontare…chi vorrà più telefonare? Tutti i problemi di Roaming saranno un ricordo (chi scrive ha potuto telefonare in Italia comodamente seduto in uno Starbucks di Camden Town a Londra), saranno i dati i veri protagonisti, ma pare che funzioni anche quando il limite dei dati previsti dal proprio contratto! Quindi è solo questione di tempo per vedere come cambierà il mercato.
Per ora godiamoci questa lenta rivoluzione sperando di non dover più fare slalom tra coloro che chattano per strada…come Mister Selfie, il personaggio animato creato dallo studio londinese We are seventeen. Purtoppo non è poi molto diverso da moltissima gente: la realtà la guarda solo attraverso lo schermo del suo telefono, anche qua a Londra….
